“We are all mad here.”

A timeless line from Alice in Wonderland perfectly captured the spirit of the morning when the Children’s Art Centre hosted its enchanting Morning of Madness on 15 March 2025.

The Foundation Phase garden was transformed into a whimsical Mad Hatter’s Tea Garden — a space where imagination reigned and the ordinary gave way to the extraordinary. From the moment guests stepped through the gates, they were transported into a world of playful fantasy, brimming with colour, creativity and delightful absurdity.

Staff members fully embraced the theme, arriving in spectacular costume. The mischievous March Hare hopped about causing cheerful chaos, the formidable Queen of Hearts ruled with dramatic flair, and Alice herself wandered wide-eyed through the festivities. Each character brought energy and theatrical charm, creating an immersive experience for the guests.

Adding an extra layer of elegance and intrigue, Lady Whistledown made a most fashionable appearance, observing the revelry in all her finery. One could almost hear her whispering, “Dear gentle readers…” as laughter and conversation floated through the garden air.

The morning was more than just a celebration of imagination — it was a joyful fundraiser. Friends gathered around beautifully decorated tables, the teachers  delighted in the playful atmosphere, and the sense of community was unmistakable. Creativity was not only on display in the décor and costumes, but in the shared spirit of generosity and togetherness.

In true Wonderland fashion, the event blurred the line between fantasy and reality. It reminded us that a touch of madness, a sprinkle of imagination, and a community willing to participate wholeheartedly can transform a simple garden into something extraordinary.

Indeed, it was a morning where fun became fundraising, characters came to life, and for a few magical hours, we were all delightfully mad.
